Feng Shui for the Body™ is a
method of presenting classical Chinese energy practices to
modern students while still transmitting the authentic
content , or "soul", of the art.
The art we initially speak of
here is PaKua Chang,
the Eight Trigram Palm, first popularized by Imperial
bodyguard Dong Hai Chuan at the end of the Ching Dynasty, an
art based on the ancient I Ching, Book
of Changes (1122 BCE). The I
Ching we also know as the basis for
Chinese Geomancy or Fung Shui,
the art and science of arranging and foretelling events; of divining
circumstances now and in the future... a method of preparing
for change. The I Ching
is fundamental to Chinese Philosophy, repeatedly a source of
wisdom for sages such as Confucius and Mencious, and is cited
often in the fundamental medical text of Traditional Chinese
Medicine, the Neijing Suwen, "The Yellow Emperor's
Classic of Internal Medicine", attributed to Huang
Di, The Yellow Emperor (2697-2598 BCE).
Gong Ak Fai, skilled Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine
and Acupuncturist, studied PaKua Chang and ShingYi Chuan
from childhood. Originally from Canton, China, he
immigrated to the United States via Hong Kong. Known as Kenny Gong in the States, settled with his family
in New York, N.Y. and began teaching ShingYi and PaKua in
the late 1960's. Sifu Gong was one of the first
traditionally trained experts to teach
PaKua Chang and ShingYi Chuan to westerners. It is his art that we are proud
to bring to you.
Feng Shui for the Body™,
the art of PaKua, embraces change as the singular constant
within the continual energy flow. PaKua's revolving and
rotating movement create an energetic synergism quite unlike
other more linear movements. A physical/mental/meditative
art, PaKua's flowing circularity is unique, yielding many
benefits on the physical level:

gently
works musculature around bones and joints, opening the fascia

invigorates bloodflow

improves focus, cultivates patience

enhances hip, trunk and shoulder flexibility

promotes aerobic endurance

increases ankle strength, neck flexibility, upper and lower
back flexibility and strength

improves posture, balance and poise

strengthens core body
and legs

teaches flow and transition

promotes whole body
integration
Feng Shui for the
Body™ brings you PaKua Chang, a means of physical and mental
self-integration; a preparation for change and understanding
ourselves and our environs, a method of cultivating harmony,
superior flexibility and vigor with few requirements beside
minutes a day. In fact, practice has no particular
space requirement, may be done in or out of doors,
requires no equipment and may be
practiced as a solitary exercise or in a group.
Feng Shui for the
Body™
is designed to introduce the beginner
and expert alike to the authentic practices of foundational
PaKua walking, movement, alignment, flow and energy
cultivation. We begin this exciting lifetime art by
learning the essential Palm Change and Circular Stepping
method, the fundamental energy cultivation practices. The program includes
meditations, energetic and
breathing techniques fundamental to PaKua Chi Gung,
"Vital Energy Cultivation" as handed down through
the centuries.
Students with interest may continue with
lessons progressing through all the Eight Palms of the Old
Form and may progress to the Study of Shing Yi Chuan. |
