5/5/2000 The annual 'Grip It & Rip
It' Golf Tournament benefiting the Alzheimer's Association hosted by S&S
Paving's Chuck Cassis at the 500 Club G.C. on Pinnacle Peak Road in Phoenix. A lot of hard
working guys and gals took months to prepare followed by a day to play and raise funds for
Alzheimer's research and care. Hats off to Chuck as well as T&T Allsports and all the
people and business' that supported this event. By the way, we were out at the 500 Club
two weeks before the tournament and even though the peak season was drawing to a close,
the grounds crew was working hard to make everything picture perfect. The 500 Club gets
better and better every year and the great course conditions contributed to the success of
this years tourney. If you haven't played there recently, book a tee time and see for
yourself.
Long Drive Contest Results
The Par 5 10th hole, playing 507 yards,
was uncharacteristically difficult in blistering triple digit heat. Afternoon winds,
gusting and swirling, brought into play the waste area to the right and the mounded
water hazards to the left. Undaunted, Trevor Cavenaugh struck a 12°M421 Deep Face Maraging Wood with Tour H+ X shaft 302 yards and
split the fairway. This combination of distance and accuracy proved unbeatable in the
difficult afternoon winds. The ball came to rest just short of the 200 yard marker in the
dead center of the fairway. Reaching the elevated green in two, the team made eagle.
Trevor told us "the club just seemed to set up naturally to me...".
